Tissues and Integrity

I was at an airport restroom the other day and noticed a staff personnel washing his face. I could tell that his shift was still active and he had just come to freshen up.

He splashed cold water on his face and rubbed his eyes for a moment of relief. He then pulled out four tissues from the tissue dispenser, wiped his face and left the restroom.

A couple of months later, I noticed a similar incident in my office’s restroom. Only this time, there were two people in front of me. The person first in line was a blue-collar employee, dried his hands using a single tissue and left the restroom. The gentleman in front of me (who was a colleague), used three tissues for the same purpose.

It is essential to point out that in both these instances, a single tissue was adequate.

The question that I want to put in front of you is this  –

Would you have used the same number of tissue, if it were your home?

You can read the best books on leadership, have thousands of followers on your motivational/leadership channels, and portray a whole different picture to the world.

No one’s going to know how many tissues you actually use. Only you do.

And the day you find yourself voluntarily taking just one tissue out of the box  – that’s a sign of real change. You know, the one from within.
